Language Woes Now Solved By Tall Drink of Water

Return to Media page

August 5, 2005, Boulder, Colo.—The Eye is no language expert, but next time it heads south of the border, a water bottle may be all the Eye needs to learn some basic Latino lingo. That’s because St. Vrain Valley schoolteacher Steve Margolin has come up with the idea of printing useful English to Spanish words and phrases on the side of a water bottle.

Margolin said he got the idea while traveling in Europe several years ago. He struggled to learn some simple phrases but didn’t want to lug around and fumble through a translation book. But since he always had a water bottle with him, he though to put about 100 words and phrases on the side of the bottle.

The English to Spanish bottles have sold well, and now Margolin is working on English to French bottles and other languages. The 32-ounce Nalgene bottle is available for $14.99 at www.bottlesintranslation.com and at several locally owned outdoor stores.
